Solar Daytopper vs PVOutput
03/10/2024
Some of you might already be familiar with PVOutput. It shares some similarities with Solar Daytopper. In this blog, we want to explain the differences between PVOutput and Solar Daytopper.
PVOutput is a free service for sharing and comparing data on the performance of your solar panels. It offers both manual and automatic options for uploading data. Performance data can be displayed in charts, analyzed, and compared with other PVOutput users over different time periods. The ability to compare your system with similar ones nearby makes it easy to evaluate both short-term and long-term performance.
The biggest difference is that with Solar Daytopper, we focus on home use. We've designed a module that makes it very easy to retrieve data from your inverter. This is not possible with PVOutput, where you need to build your own integration to extract the data from your inverter and send it over. In addition to the module handling all the heavy lifting for data collection, we do everything we can to keep it as simple as possible. You can easily create a group, invite someone, and compare your data, with points automatically updated. This is something that is more complicated with PVOutput unless you have specific knowledge of such systems.
In short, Solar Daytopper is focused on delivering a useful set of features in the simplest possible way, so it's truly plug-and-play for the end user.

In the future, we will also integrate with services like HomeWizard or Chargee, so your energy consumption is included in the point system. This will not only make it more fun, but also help you become more conscious of your home energy use. You'll be literally rewarded for consuming energy at the most optimal times.
